Driving Change: 5 Strategies to Help Your Employees Transform Their Commute

Neponset Valley TMA Hosts MassDOT Listening Session for Local Businesses

On June 4, 2019 the Neponset Valley Transportation Management Association (NV TMA) hosted a Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Workforce Transit Grant Listening Session at the historic Endicott Estate  in Dedham, MA. The event was co-sponsored by other regional groups, including the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA), Neponset River Regional Chamber, Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce, and the Neponset Valley Suburban Mobility Working Group (SMWG).
This is one in a series of these sessions being held throughout the state. It provided an excellent opportunity for business leaders and regional stakeholders to give their feedback on workforce transit priorities and share concerns.
This meeting comes at a critical time with increasing traffic congestion having an impact on economic development. Suburban transportation options continue to be a key employee recruitment and retention factor. To assist, MassDOT is formulating a new annual $1.5 Million competitive grant program to increase workforce transportation options.
MassDOT’s Rail and Transit Administrator, Astrid Glynn, provided an overview of the Workforce Transit Grant program, the details of which are expected to be announced in June. She spent much of the time hearing from meeting attendees.
In attendance was also Senior Manager of Sales Transformation, Carmel Levy, representating the MBTA’s Perq program and provided information on the benefits of offering pre-tax transit passes to employees.
The NV TMA would like to thank MassDOT’s Astrid Glynn, our co-sponsors, and the Neponset Valley businesses leaders who attended this Listening Session. Meetings such as this highlight the importance of the Commonwealth continuing to invest in public/private partnerships focused on transportation in our region.
